An attack in the shadow of a peace agreement. An Israeli drone hit a car in Lebanon, leaving one dead and several seriously injured

Israel launched a drone strike in southern Lebanon just hours after the signing of the US-Iranian memorandum to end the war. The attack claimed one victim.

An Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon left one person dead on Thursday, Lebanese state media reported. The attack came just hours after the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war in the Middle East. TASR writes about it according to reports from AFP and Sky News.

  • An Israeli drone attack in southern Lebanon killed one person.
  • The attacks followed the signing of a memorandum between the US and Iran.
  • The memorandum calls for an immediate cessation of fighting in the region.
  • An Israeli soldier was also killed in the incident in southern Lebanon.
  • Israel is conducting difficult negotiations with the US about its activities in the region.

A drone attacked a car in the Kfar Tibnit area. The attack claimed the life of one person and seriously injured another person, the Lebanese news agency NNA reported. In another attack by Israeli troops in the town of Beit Yahun, two more people were injured. The strikes came despite the memorandum of understanding including an immediate cessation of fighting “on all fronts, including Lebanon.”

Hezbollah has not claimed responsibility for the attacks

Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced that one of its soldiers was killed in an incident in southern Lebanon on Thursday, in which seven other soldiers were also injured.

Iran and the US announced over the weekend that they had agreed on a memorandum of understanding, following which there has been a significant drop in violence in Lebanon since Monday. Since then, the Iranian-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah has not claimed responsibility for any new attacks against Israel. Despite this, there were sporadic shootings, and on Tuesday, Israeli attacks in Lebanon claimed four lives.

Reuters reported on Thursday, citing two Israeli officials, that Israel is conducting “tough negotiations” with the US on the continued deployment of its troops in southern Lebanon. One of the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Israel has no intention of retreating from its positions and wants to maintain a military presence in the area south of Lebanon’s Litani river.
