Edu Aguirre left harsh criticisms of Portugal’s performance in the 1-1 draw against DR Congo, pointing mainly to the performance of the Seleção’s midfield.
During the program El Chiringuito, the Spanish journalist, known for his closeness to Cristiano Ronaldo, stated that the remaining players should demonstrate more personality and competitive ambition.
“The Portuguese surprised me. I think they should demand from the rest of the players, especially this super midfield player, half the personality and winning character of Cristiano Ronaldo. I believe that there is a part of Portugal that is a little ungrateful. If Portugal is where it is, it also owes it to Cristiano. That is the reality”, he began by saying.
Aguirre praised the individual quality of the Portuguese players, but criticized their lack of ability to create play and the attitude demonstrated on the field.
“Cristiano is the best player in the world inside the box and Portugal has some of the best midfielders in the world, that’s why they play for PSG. But you need to generate football. We all considered Portugal one of the big favorites, but they lacked anger, desire and intensity. There was no movement. What kind of football did Portugal create?”, he asked.
