The Union of Auxiliary Professionals and Nursing Technicians and Nurses of the State of Acre denounced, this Monday (2), the precarious working conditions faced by nursing professionals at the Rio Branco Maternity Material Center. The complaint was published on the union’s official profile and reports problems that have been going on for more than a year and four months, without resolution.

According to the union, workers are being forced to carry out 24-hour shifts in an unhealthy environment, without proper functioning of the air conditioning, equipment that, according to reports, breaks down frequently and has not operated for more than 30 days. Professionals reportedly felt ill due to the intense heat, and some reported the need to wet their own uniforms to be able to continue on duty.
The Material Center is responsible for washing, sterilizing and preparing materials used in births, surgeries and essential care, which, according to the entity, makes the situation even more serious from the point of view of health security.
The union also claims that there is no suitable place to rest. Professionals would be sleeping on the floor, on improvised mattresses, in a room with no silence and no minimum conditions for rest, even after long journeys.
In the publication, the entity reinforces that the responsibility does not lie with the workers and informs that letters, documents and formal requests have already been sent to the competent authorities, without a concrete response. At the end of this Monday afternoon, the union was called again due to the physical and emotional exhaustion of the team.
At the end of the complaint, the union appeals for urgent action to the Public Ministry, the State Health Council and the Legislative Assembly of Acre, highlighting that the situation goes beyond the labor sphere and involves public health, professional dignity and patient safety.
