The program foresees the distribution of vouchers to refill 13 kg cylinders and should reach around 15 million Brazilian families by March, when it will be available in all municipalities. In Acre, the estimate is that more than 114 thousand families will benefit.
For , the approval represents an important advance in social protection and in promoting the dignity of the most vulnerable families.
“Ensuring access to cooking gas is an essential measure of social justice. We are talking about a basic item, essential for food security and the health of families. My vote in favor reaffirms the commitment of our mandate to public policies that take care of those who need it most”, stated the parliamentarian.
Families registered in the Single Registry (CadÚnico), with a per capita monthly income of up to half the minimum wage, may receive the benefit. Families that already receive Bolsa Família may also be covered, as long as they keep their data up to date. The selection will be automatic, without the need for a request.
Unlike the previous model, the program will not make cash transfers. Access to the benefit will be through vouchers, which must be used directly at accredited resellers. The measure also seeks to reduce risks associated with the use of precarious alternatives, such as firewood and kerosene, which can cause respiratory problems and domestic accidents.
Socorro Neri also highlighted that the measure strengthens the social protection network and contributes to reducing inequalities.
“Effective public policies are those that reach the end and improve people’s lives. We will continue to pay attention and work so that programs like this are implemented efficiently and reach those who really need it.”
The parliamentarian has defended, in the National Congress, initiatives aimed at social inclusion, food security and improving the living conditions of the population of Acre.
