For a long, very long time, the 1,500-year-old Roman church of San Lorenzo in Lucina had not experienced such a rush as in the past few days. Art historians, restorers, iconographers, officials of the Roman Curia and the Roman city administration, experts from the Ministry of Culture, domestic and foreign journalists and, last but not least, countless believers, tourists and onlookers wanted to see the angel in a side chapel of the church, which after a restoration suddenly looked strikingly similar to the Italian Prime Minister. But the hype has now ended just as abruptly as it began at the weekend: the angel’s face has been painted over again – by the author of all the excitement himself.
