Building at risk of collapsing after false ceiling collapse forces residents to evacuate in Carcavelos

A building was evacuated after the collapse of a false ceiling that left a beam exposed at risk of giving way, in Sassoeiros, Carcavelos. The alert, given around 8:30 pm by the resident family, mobilized the Firefighters and Civil Protection elements.

A building at risk of collapsing forced, on Wednesday night, the intervention of the Volunteer Firefighters of Carcavelos and São Domingos de Rana, in the Sassoeiros area, in Carcavelos.

Speaking to SIC Notícias, the president of explained that the alert was given around 8:30 pm by the resident family, after a false ceiling collapsed, leaving exposed a beam that presented a risk of giving way and there was a risk of the building collapsing.

Not only firefighters were mobilized to the site, but also Civil Protection elements, who are in state of readiness due to storm Leonardo.

The building was evacuated and subject to an initial assessment by the Carcavelos firefighters, followed by a technical inspection by the Cascais City Council.

The teams concluded that it was necessary call the fire rescue and rescue team to proceed with shoring up the beam and the ceiling that had given way. Other fractions located on the lower floors were also checked.

Families on the remaining floors have already returned to their homes. The family in the affected apartment must also return tonightafter completion of the work taking place on site.
