In a game valid for the second round of the Brazilian Championship, Verdão easily prevailed over Rubro-negro from Bahia to score 5 x 1
Palmeiras achieved their first victory in the Brazilian Championship, this Wednesday (4), by beating Vitória 5-1, at Arena Barueri. The match is valid for the second round. With ease, Abel Ferreira’s team prevailed over their opponents and put on one of their best performances so far this season.
Verdão’s third goal, scored by Maurício, confirmed the team’s good football. Andreas and Piquerez combined more than once until the Uruguayan found the number 18 unmarked in the area. Before that, a blitz of aerial plays yielded results, twice, with Murilo and Gustavo Gómez. It would be a perfect night for the defense duo, but the two “blacked out” in an attack that Dudu took advantage of. Allan also scored a great goal, and Sosa closed the score.
The next appointment on Palmeiras’ agenda is the classic against Corinthians, for Paulistão, on Sunday (8), at Neo Química Arena. Vitória visits Jequié, for the Campeonato Baiano, on Saturday (7).
From the first minute, Palmeiras applied high pressure against Vitória. When they lost the ball, the São Paulo team recovered quickly.
Allan, on the right, was well used, behind Ramon’s back. The best arrivals, however, were from set pieces. That’s how Gustavo Gómez appeared, also behind the opponent’s left-back, and almost opened the scoring with a header.
The insistence on the aerial ball worked. Andreas took a corner, and Murilo rose well to head hard and score. Palmeiras still lacked shine, but maintained control over the actions.
Again with a high ball, Murilo deflected, and the ball fell to Gómez. The Paraguayan positioned himself as a center forward to, with one touch, cover Gabriel and expand.
With the ball on the ground, Palmeiras finally showed above-average quality. Andreas and Piquerez scored twice, until the Uruguayan crossed, finding Maurício free to score the third.
Jair Ventura returned from the break with changes. Vitória had more possession, but did not pose any danger to Palmeiras. Until, in the 11th minute, Dudu teamed up with two teammates and, faced with a disengaged defense, sent a bomb into Carlos Miguel’s goal, taking the chance.
Even with the goal’s enthusiasm, Vitória couldn’t make much of a reaction. Palmeiras kept attacking. Shortly after suffering the discount, the team expanded on a beautiful individual play by Allan. The number 40 cut inside and, left-handed, sent it into Gabriel’s corner.
Already with a lower pace, Palmeiras still reached fifth. Ramón Sosa, who replaced Allan, hit from outside the area, the ball deflected off Luan Cândido and covered Gabriel.
