The Federal Science and Technology Commission approved, this Wednesday (4), a bill that prohibits advertising, sponsorship and promotion of and , in a defeat for .
The processing of the text, which now goes to the House’s Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ), brought together names from the base of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the opposition: the proposal was authored by senator Randolfe Rodrigues (PT-AP), leader of the government in Congress, and was reported by Damares Alves (Republicanos-DF), former minister of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
The project was approved in a symbolic vote. It prohibits advertising on radio, TV, newspapers, magazines or social networks, even indirectly — for example, through the insertion of the brand in programs.
The text also prohibits sponsorship of events, companies and clubs, which is why, in recent days, leaders and organizers of these teams have mobilized in Congress to try to block or at least change the text.
This is because the sponsorship of and appears on more than half of this year’s Serie A shirts.
They are also partners in the main national tournaments, such as the Copa do Brasil and Brasileiro, and also in state tournaments.
Senator Damares Alves indicated, during the session, that there is a dialogue to try to reach an agreement with the clubs in the CCJ. She also said that, when it reaches the committee, this proposal should be debated together with others on the same topic, in a single text.
The fine for those who fail to comply with the obligation, if the measure comes into force, would be R$5,000 to R$10 million, and bets may be suspended or have their operating licenses revoked. The project also prohibits electronic devices such as cell phones or tablets from having pre-installed betting applications.
