Iran warns the US of retaliation. The minister announces attacks on American bases if Washington strikes Iran

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi warned that in the event of an American attack, American bases in the region would be hit. Discussions on the nuclear program have stagnated for the time being and are still accompanied by tension.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Saturday that his country would target US bases in the region if Washington attacked Iranian territory. TASR writes about it according to the AFP agency.

  • Iran has threatened to attack American bases in the region.
  • Negotiations between Iran and the US do not have a set date.
  • The two sides mainly discussed the Iranian nuclear program.
  • Iran refuses to negotiate on its missile program.
  • The US imposed new sanctions on Iran after negotiations.

“If Washington attacks us, there is no possibility of attacking American territory, but we will attack their bases in the region,” the minister said, according to excerpts posted on his official Telegram channel, during an interview with Al Jazeera television.

Negotiations waver in uncertainty

No date has been set for the next round of talks with the United States, but both sides agreed it should be “soon.” Iran’s minister said on Saturday that he was ready to reach a “calm” deal with the US on uranium enrichment.

On Friday, Iran and the US, through Omani mediators, held talks in the Omani capital of Muscat exclusively on Iran’s nuclear program. The US has previously urged Tehran’s support for militant groups in the Middle East, its ballistic missile program and a crackdown on recent anti-government protests to also be on the agenda.

Iran refuses to negotiate on missiles

“Missiles can never be negotiated because they are a defense issue,” Arakchi said, according to excerpts posted in Persian on his official Telegram channel.

Shortly after the end of Friday’s talks, the US announced new sanctions targeting 15 entities, two individuals and 14 shadow fleet vessels linked to the illegal trade in Iranian oil, petroleum and petrochemical products. However, it is not clear whether the move was related to the talks in Oman.
