Ponte Preta is relegated again in the Campeonato Paulista – 02/07/2026 – Sport

Defeated by Portuguesa this Saturday (7), 2-0, Ponte Preta is the first team to have relegation ordered in this edition of the Campeonato Paulista.

The team from Campinas has just one point and, with one round to go before the end of the first phase, they can only reach four points. Velo Clube, 15th place, also has four, and Santos, 14th, already has six.

In this edition of Paulistão, the eight best teams from the initial phase advance to the knockout stage, which will have single-game knockouts, with the exception of the final, defined in two clashes, on the 4th and 8th of March. The two worst teams in the group stage fall to Series A2.

The last time Ponte was relegated in the state was in 2022. The following year, it was champion of Series A2 for the fourth time, and returned to the elite tournament.

In October 2025, the club won the first national title in its history, by winning Series C of the Brazilian Championship.

Portuguesa, in turn, rose to second place with this Saturday’s victory and advances to the knockout stage. The Canindé team has 12 points and beat Ponte with goals from Gabriel Pires and Matheus Cadorini.
