Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy imposed sanctions on foreign manufacturers of components for Russian drones and missiles on Sunday. The new sanctions list includes persons and companies from China, the United Arab Emirates, Panama and several post-Soviet countries. TASR informs about it according to the Reuters agency.
“The production of these weapons would not be possible without key foreign components, which the Russians continue to obtain by circumventing sanctions,” wrote Zelenskyj on the X social network. “Therefore, we are introducing new sanctions against just such companies – suppliers of components, as well as manufacturers of missiles and drones,” he explained.
The Ukrainian president added that it also imposed sanctions on Russia’s financial sector and authorities that support Russia’s cryptocurrency market and mining operations. According to him, several of the introduced sanctions are part of the 20th EU sanctions package, which was presented by the European Commission on Friday.
Despite ongoing negotiations to end the war, Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine in recent weeksfocusing on the energy and logistics sectors. Attacks on power plants and substations have caused widespread restrictions on electricity and heating supplies, with outages lasting up to 20 hours a day in the capital, Kyiv. Zelenskyi stated on X, that over the past week, Russia has launched more than 2,000 attack drones, 1,200 guided aerial bombs and 116 missiles on Ukrainian cities and villages.
