Galípolo says productivity is a challenge for the Brazilian economy

For the President of the Central Bank, Gabriel GalípoloBrazil has a deficiency in productivity gains in the country’s economy, which tends to put pressure on price increases and, consequently, the effects of monetary policy.

“The economy has been growing, we have a historic maximum income and unemployment at a minimum. But we see that we have this challenge of understanding how Brazil can grow with global value chains supported by productivity”, said Galípolo.

One of the ways cited, according to him, is through the greater presence of Artificial intelligence in production chains. “In relation to this, there is a future expectation that these tools will help to gain productivity – which will put less pressure on inflation, even though Brazil is no less “linked” to this segment”, he explained.

The BC president participated in the event dubbed “Gilmarpalooza” remotely, this Tuesday (3) and was one of the guests on the panel “The directions of the Brazilian economy: international reflections”.
