Mass demonstrations in Munich ahead of the Security Conference

Tens of thousands of protesters are expected to flood the Bavarian capital next week during the , according to city authorities. As announced by the administrative authorities of the Munich Region, so far approximately 120,000 people have registered to participate in the demonstrations that will take place alongside the international meeting.

This number is considered particularly high compared to previous years, as participation in the demonstrations accompanying the Conference has declined, despite the fact that it is one of the most important international forums with the participation of heads of state, senior government officials, as well as defense and intelligence officials.

Until yesterday, a total of 21 protest events had been announced, which will take place in various parts of Munich from Wednesday to Sunday. The largest mobilization is expected on February 14, with a rally against the Iranian authorities. According to the organizers, up to 100,000 people have registered for this demonstration, which has put the authorities on high alert.

The Munich Security Conference will be held from February 13 to 15, with the participation of, as announced, 65 leaders from around the world. The list of invitees also includes foreign and defense ministers, as well as top officials of international organizations.

Among the most prominent participants are expected to be the American Secretary of State, the Ukrainian president, as well as, who will take part for the first time in the Conference in the capacity of the Chancellor of Germany. Developments in Ukraine, security in Europe and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East are expected to dominate both official business and the streets of the Bavarian capital.
