Brazilian Navy is activated after heavy rains hit the north of RJ

Due to heavy rains that hit the State of Rio de Janeirothe Brazilian Navy was called, this Sunday (8), to support the Civil Defense teams operating in the municipalities of Cantagalo and Porciúncula, in the North of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the Navy, for the main affected regions. Currently, 24 specialized vehicles, tractors and backhoes are being used, as well as drones to help monitor the situation.

The objective of the action is to removal of debris and restoration of public roads, restoration of access and direct support to isolated communities.

The soldiers will be temporarily housed at the Elestar Caetano Mendes Municipal School, in the Euclidelândia region, Serrana region of the state.

Civil Defense Alert

According to Civil Defense, due to a convergence zone in the South Atlantic and a low pressure system close to the coast, storms hit Rio de Janeiro this week.

According to the Operations Center of Rio City Hall, the capital of Rio remains in “Stage 2” due to the record of storms.

The Fire Department was called on Sunday afternoon (8), on Rua Visconde de Itabaiana, in the Engenho Novo neighborhood, North Zone of the capital of Rio.

According to the agency, two dogs were trapped under the rubble. In total, four people were rescued and taken to the Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital, with three minor victims and one moderate victim.

The teams continue to carry out searches, rescue actions and structural assessment of the area, focusing on the safety of victims and crews.

Around 40 military personnel worked at the site, including teams from the Benfica Barracks (DBM 1/11), the Vila Isabel Barracks (11th GBM), the Méier Barracks (2nd GBM), the Search and Rescue Group (GBS) and specialists from the Special Operations Group (GOEsp).
