It would be nonsense to put the PS at the level of 67% for Insurance (and Chega at 33% for Ventura)

Thus, the next president of the Republic, and previous secretary general of the PS, achieved a very different result than the one PS had in the last elections, last year: practically 23% of votes.

But the Insurance result is not the PS resultnor is it an obligatory synonym that the socialists will rise significantly in the next elections, much less triple their percentage.

On the night of the presidential elections, José Luís Carneiro said that this is a victory “in first place for António José Seguro and humanists”, but soon afterwards the leader of the PS also said that it was a victory of the “socialiststhe Social Democrats and the Christian Democrats”.

These are individual candidacies, these are presidential elections and there were only two names on the ballot. None of this happens in legislative elections, with parties involved and with 15 or 20 possibilities on the ballot.

In his victory speech last night, Seguro was asked about a possible oxygen balloon for the PS, after his victory. The future President of the Republic was clear: “The life of the PS is with the leader of the PS”.
