President of the PT speaks of special ‘concern’ about the election in SP

Regarding a possible candidacy of the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, Edinho Silva said that the possible role of the minister in the elections and the impacts of his departure from the government are still being defined.

Edinho Silva, national president of PT, declared that the party has special concern com as elections for governor in São Paulo and Minas Geraisthe two largest electoral colleges in Brazil and the party has not yet presented possible candidates.

At a press conference at LIDE lunch, a group of business leaders, he spoke about the choice for the states. “These are issues that we are debating right now, there is nothing extraordinary in the dialogue for you to set up strong platforms”, he said.

About a possible candidacy of the Minister of Finance, Fernando HaddadSão Paulo city hall, Edinho reinforced that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) talks “daily” with Haddad and that the minister’s possible role in the elections and the impacts of his departure from the government are still being defined.

“This convincing process, if there is a need, they are talking,” he said. “Minister Fernando Haddad has a lot of weight in the National Congress”, he added. He also spoke about vice-president Geraldo Alckmin, stating that he will be a candidate “for whatever he wants”.

Still on the subject of elections, the president of the party spoke about a possible alliance with the MDB. Edinho said he wants alliances with parties that make up the base of Lula’s government, but analyzing the conditions of the parties. “We want the MDB with us, but respecting the MDB’s positions, which are often guided by regional complexity.”
