Centers ask that the end of the 6×1 include a reduction in working hours – 02/10/2026 – Panel

Leaders of the six main companies in the country released a joint statement this Tuesday (10) arguing that the current 44 hours per week should be reduced to 40.

The demonstration took place after the announcement made by the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), that he will begin processing projects on the topic,

In the model defended by the centers, the scale would be 5×2, that is, two days of rest for five people worked.

“The expectation is that parliamentarians have social sensitivity and understanding of the advances represented by the reduction of working hours and the end of the 6×1 scale, establishing, by law, the 40-hour working week with a 5×2 scale”, says the note signed by CUT, Força Sindical, UGT, CTB, Nova and CSB.

Behind the scenes, leaders say they fear that the debate over reducing the 6×1 scale, a relatively new demand from non-unionized workers, will end up overshadowing the historic demand for a reduction in working hours. Therefore, the proposal for the two themes to go together.

“The reduction of working hours is a historic banner of the trade union movement, responsible for significant achievements over time. In recent years, it has resurfaced through the fight for the end of the 6×1 scale, as a reaction to the broad withdrawal of rights promoted by the 2017 labor reform”, say the centers.
