French President Emmanuel Macron said the United States tariffs represent a point of structural change and the rules of the game. “US tariffs on the European economy are a coercive mechanism,” he stated.
In response to tariff challenges, the leader defended the adoption of changes quickly in Europe.
“We have to strengthen regulation. We have to deliver a rapid acceleration (of the economy), “said the French president at an event in Antwerp, Belgium. “We need a speed approach to regulation, simplification and protection,” said the French leader. “Europe has been suffocated by exports from China for the last two years,” Macron said.

“What we do in relation to steel and in certain sectors is a matter of timing”, he added. “Some sectors could disappear if we don’t do something,” he warned.
For Macron, it is necessary to accelerate the simplification and protection of some economies so that some sectors do not die.
