The minister of the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU) Jhonatan de Jesus limited the Central Bank’s access to the process that evaluates the agency’s performance in the liquidation of Banco Master, said a source with knowledge of the matter this Wednesday (11).
The information was initially reported by the newspaper Economic Value and confirmed à Reuters by this source, who requested anonymity. When contacted, TCU and BC did not respond immediately.
Jesus is the rapporteur of the case regarding the Master in the court of accounts. The BC had automatic access to documents as an interested party despite the process being confidential, but now the new status requires specific authorization to read documents, according to this source.
Opportunity with security!
In January, the BC withdrew an appeal that it had filed with the TCU to contest an open inspection in court to analyze documents from the authority that supported the liquidation of Master.
The decision to withdraw the request was taken one day after authorities from the local authority and the audit court, including Jesus, met to discuss the scope of the inspection, reaching an understanding that the procedure would be limited.
It was also established at the time that the investigation would not be carried out by the rapporteur’s office, but by the technical area of the TCU, which had already preliminarily recognized the BC’s competence in the case and positioned itself in favor of the settlement.
