Court ordered Yevgeny Chekulayev to stop appearing as Jesus Christ and restore his baptismal name to official documents
A repeat criminal from the Russian city of Kazan was prevented from using the name Jesus Christ and forced to return to his baptismal name, local press reported.
Jesus Christ – born Yevgeny Chekulayev – was convicted of fraudulently registering several foreigners at his address, which last year earned him a fine of 60,000 rubles (approximately US$780).
Authorities did not clarify whether the fraudulent registrations were made in exchange for a material benefit or for charity.
The same Kazan court sentenced the false messiah to two years in prison, with a suspended sentence, for a similar offense.
Justice did not look favorably on the “miracle” of the multiplication of records, nor that of first names: according to Business Online, a court ordered on Wednesday that Yevgeny no longer appear as Jesus Christ and reinstate his baptismal name in official documents.
“The Novo-Savinovski District Court of Kazan instructed the Civil Registry Office to restore the previous name of a resident of Kazan named Jesus Christ,” the ruling states.
The court’s decision was motivated by a request from the city prosecutor’s office located 800 km east of the capital, Moscow.
