Recently, both countries have taken decisions to facilitate investment in oil.

Wright arrived at the Miraflores presidential palace two weeks after the approval of a legislative reform by the Venezuelan Parliament that opened the oil sector to foreign investment and after the US Treasury Department eased restrictions on US companies operating in the Caribbean country.

In a statement released in Caracas, the US Department of Energy described Wright’s arrival as historic, saying he will visit some of the country’s oil fields. “to see firsthand how President Trump’s historic U.S.-Venezuela Energy Agreement is driving peace and prosperity.”

Wright also guaranteed that President Donald Trump has a “fervent commitment” to transforming the bilateral relationship, which has been tense since 2019.

“Our countries share a long history with many chapters, like all relationships. And I bring a message from President Trump, who has a fervent commitment to transforming the relationship between the United States and Venezuela”, highlighted the Secretary of Energy, alongside Rodríguez.

According to Wright, Trump’s goal is to unite countries and “bring trade, peace, prosperity, jobs and opportunities to Venezuela” through a partnership with the USA.

The official noted that, during the meeting with Rodríguez, they spoke “with great frankness about the enormous opportunities” that lie ahead and “about some of the problems and challenges.”

In this sense, he stated that they committed to “working together to resolve them”, which he believes is possible, and to “move forward with the enormous opportunities”.

Furthermore, Wright explained that his visit to Caracas and the partnership with Venezuela are part of Trump’s “broader agenda” to “make the Americas great again” and promote peace and prosperity, not conflict or “military actions”, which, he added, “have dominated the world in regions like the Middle East and South Asia”.

Chris Wright also defended in Caracas a “drastic increase” in crude oil production in the South American country, highlighting that it would improve the quality of life of “all Venezuelans”.
