Cruzeiro do Sul records the highest volume of rain in the last five years

Cruzeiro do Sul registra maior volume de chuvas dos últimos cinco anos

The Commander of Juruá, Major Josadac Cavalcante, reported that the current quarter, which comprises the months of December, January and February, is the wettest recorded in the last five years. Only yesterday, the city was hit by 78 millimeters of rain, a volume that was expected to occur over six days, but which was concentrated in just 24 hours.

The intensity of precipitation caused streams to overflow and floods in urban areas and highways. On the AC-407 highway, a team from the Fire Department was deployed to carry out inspections and monitor the current. According to the Major, the lane closure may be necessary if the water level puts the crossing of smaller vehicles and motorcycles at risk.

Regarding structural damage, firefighters responded to a call in the Cruzeirão neighborhood, on Rua Minas Gerais, where the collapse of a wall was recorded. Despite the incident, there were no serious damages or casualties. The Major highlighted that the rapid rise in watershed levels, caused by concentrated rain, makes it difficult for residents to react in vulnerable areas.

The weather forecast indicates that the critical period should continue, with the expectation of another 70 millimeters of rain until the 17th. Major Josadac Cavalcante reinforced the safety guidelines, asking the population to ensure the correct drainage of water on roofs to prevent the soil near walls from becoming waterlogged. Furthermore, the commander warned about the disposal of garbage and furniture in drains, a factor that obstructs the passage of water and worsens flooding in the city.
