THE! closed for several weeks: 7 thousand tons of rock already landed

Brisa does not commit to a deadline for reopening the A1 after the destruction of 9 km of highway and guarantees that maintenance was in order.

The president of Brisa does not commit to a concrete deadline for repairing the Northern Highway. It also does not comment on the criticisms of experts, who do not understand that a highway is located on a dike. Pires de Lima guarantees, however, that maintenance was in order.

Work on the A1 will take weeks. In a nine-kilometer stretch, the highway is closed in both directions. Brisa guarantees that the viaduct had undergone an intervention in 2025.

To stop the erosion that led to the fall of almost 10 meters of asphalt on the A1, after the dike broke, more than 200 trucks of rock had already been unloaded by 9am this Friday, totaling seven thousand tons.

33 trucks remain on site, in the works carried out by Mota-Engil, with technical support, among other entities, from LNEC and Brisa.

The closure of the nine kilometers of the A1 requires alternative routes via the A25, A17 or A8, and transport companies and industrial sectors warn of increased costs and possible delays in deliveries.

Brisa does not commit to a date for the total restoration of circulation.

The company guarantees that work was carried out on the A1 viaduct last year.

The Government has already asked the National Civil Engineering Laboratory to carry out an urgent technical assessment of the main road and railway structures.

The Mondego dikes are identified, but there are other municipalities with roads that cannot be driven on. The A5 has two lanes cut in the direction of Lisbon-Cascais, after a landslide.

In Alcácer do Sal, several streets, threatened by the hillside of the castle, remain closed, and the list extends to 25 roads cut in Arruda dos Vinhos, part of Estrada Nacional 2 in Sertã and many other roads and structures, all over the affected areas.

While there is no date for the full reopening of the A1, TAP will reinforce the Lisbon-Porto connection with seven more flights and increase capacity at some times.
