Benício Araújo Machado, aged 8, died 2 days after his father shot him and his brother
The 2nd son of the Secretary of Government of Itumbiara, Thales Naves Alves Machado, Benício Araújo Machado, aged 8, died this Friday (Feb. 13, 2026) at the Itumbiara State Hospital. The secretary against his 2 children and then committed suicide on Wednesday (Feb. 11, 2026). The older brother, Miguel Araújo Machado, 12 years old, also succumbed to his injuries.
The PC (Civil Police) investigates the case as a completed and attempted homicide, followed by suicide, with no evidence of other people’s participation. The information was confirmed to the G1 by the State PC. The crime took place at the family’s residence in Itumbiara, family members discovered what happened after viewing a farewell post on Thales’ social media profile, which was later removed.
Thales, who is the son-in-law of the city’s mayor, Dione Araújo, published a video hours before the episode in which he said he loved his children. “May God always bless my children, daddy loves them so much”he wrote. The boys’ mother was traveling when the crime was committed.
The Military Police reported that the team arrived at the scene when called and isolated the area until other agents arrived. The Civil Police opened proceedings to investigate the case and investigations are ongoing. The bodies of the father and son have already been released by the IML (Legal Medical Institute).
According to G1, Benício’s body will be laid to rest at the mayor’s residence from 7am this Saturday (Feb 14), just as it was at Miguel’s wake. The burial time has yet to be defined, with burial scheduled for the Avenida da Saudade Cemetery.
