Tony Sandro, president of Veja SP, told Jornal Jovem Pan that the party should attract 16 million revelers and boost tourism, jobs and hospitality
São Paulo Carnival is expected to generate more than R$3 billion in the state’s economy and attract around 16 million revelers this year, according to estimates from the City Hall’s Tourism Observatory. The projection was commented on by the president of Visto São Paulo, Tony Sandro, in an interview with Jovem Pan newspaperon Saturday night (15).
According to Sandro, the impact of the party goes far beyond the blocks and parades. “The most important thing about carnival is how much it employs,” he said, highlighting that the event moves a broad production chain, involving tourism, events, transport, food, security and services.
The president of Veja São Paulo highlighted that the capital has undergone a transformation in recent years, with the expansion of street blocks and the decentralization of attractions. Currently, the city has more than 600 blocks spread across different regions, as well as events and shows in traditional spots such as Parque Ibirapuera and Avenida Paulista.
According to him, the São Paulo Carnival stopped being a period in which the city “emptied out” and began to attract visitors and boost the local economy. “Many people become tourists in the city itself and those who leave São Paulo are replaced by those who want to enter”, he explained.
