High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallasová on Sunday she rejected the “smearing” of Europe by the United States and said that Russia must be forced to make concessions in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. AFP informs about it, writes TASR.
“Contrary to what some say that Europe is ‘woke’ and decadent, it is not facing civilizational wipeout,” Kallas said on the last day of the Munich Security Conference.
She responded to the words of the American Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marco Rubio, who said on Saturday that The US and Europe “belong together”, but at the same time he insisted that the old continent must defend itself against mass migration to protect its “civilization”. However, the head of EU diplomacy added that “the message we heard that America and Europe are, were, and will be connected,” is important.
The meeting in Munich was marked by statements by European representatives that the continent must take the lead in its defense, confront an aggressive Russia, and also the doubts about the reliability of the United States.
Kallas claims that European defense “starts in Ukraine” and it depends on how the Russian war ends. “Let’s be realistic about Russia. Russia is not a superpower,” declared Kallas, insisting that the country was “weakened”.
The head of EU diplomacy also called for limiting the size of the Russian army, saying that Moscow must pay for the damage caused and bear responsibility for war crimes.
