Separatists from the Canadian province of Alberta, known as the “Texas of Canada”, claim to have discussed, at a meeting at the White House, support for a plan to switch to the US dollar and create new armed forces.
A group of far-right Canadian separatists who want the province of Alberta, rich in oilseparates from Canada, claims to have held meetings with senior officials from the Trump administration with a view to obtaining support for a plan to switch to the US dollar and create new armed forces.
The separatist group from the Canadian province, called , hopes to hold a referendum about the separation from Albertasometimes known as the Texas of Canada, from the rest of the country.
Em three secret meetings with officials from the North American State and Treasury departments, the group discussed the Alberta’s rupture mechanisms with Canada, including plans to convert to US currency and even to create a new military force, according to the oea.
One fourth meeting was also planned in the coming weeks in order to deepen the discussion on How a transition process might worko, if a legally binding referendum and the result indicates the desire to form a new independent nation.
“For those who strongly support that Alberta becomes a sovereign countryit is reassuring, in each of the three meetings we have had with the US administration, to be informed that the entire US administration supports that Alberta becomes a sovereign country,” he said Dennis Blueco-founder of Alberta Prosperity Projec.
However, the most Canadians considers that the separatist group’s negotiations with the United States amount to “treason”according to a new survey released this week.

News of these highly unusual meetings comes against a backdrop of heightened tension between the US and its northern neighbor, notes .
During a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos last month, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke of what appeared to be a veiled attack on trade and foreign policies of President Donald Trump, without mentioning him by name.
The American president has repeatedly suggested in recent months that the U.S. should make Canada their 51st stateand in 2025, the then Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Trump’s threat was “real”.
“They are well aware of our resources, what we haveand they really want to be able to benefit from them,” Trudeau said last year. “But Mr. Trump has in mind that one of the easiest ways to do so is absorb our country. And it’s a real thing,” he added.
The tensions ended help the separatistswho are trying to capitalize on the friction between the two countries. “The US is extremely excited with a free and independent Alberta,” the separatist group’s legal advisor, Jeff Rathwho participated in the meetings.
U.S. government officials sought to minimize the meetings, saying they involved lower level employees and did not produce any commitments. A senior US State Department official stated that no more meetings are expected.
Still, former diplomats who spoke on condition of anonymity were not convinced. US actions were “extremely irresponsible“, a former employee told NBC, speaking on condition of anonymity.
“It is truly irresponsible for the United States to get involved with these types of people, because it it just encourages behavior that cannot serve the U.S. national interest,” said the former senior State Department official.
