Under pressure, Fernando Diniz ensures he stays at Vasco: ‘I never resigned’

The coach stated that he has confidence in his work, despite the current difficulties

Vasco was close to elimination in the Campeonato Carioca when facing Volta Redonda this Saturday in São Januário. Coach Fernando Diniz’s team lost 1-0 in the first half, managed to draw in the second half and secured classification on penalties.

Diniz and the Vasco management were targets of protests from the fans after the match. Despite this, the coach guaranteed his stay at the club, which will face the winner of Fluminense and Bangu in the semifinals.

“I never resigned and I never left for another club. I never left a team. If something happens, I’ll be sent away. I’m unlikely to resign,” said Diniz after the difficulty in overcoming a team that is in Series C of the Brazilian Championship.

The coach stated that he has confidence in his work, despite the current difficulties. “The final score is sovereign. Nobody disputes that. I have confidence in the work”, said Diniz, who recalled a similar bad phase when he managed Fluminense, in 2023.

“Work, my life has always been like this,” he said. “Fluminense had a moment in the season when they went ten games without winning. Just like here, dissatisfied fans. The team won Libertadores and Recopa”, he recalled.
