The team must use underwater technology to facilitate the search for the seven people who are still missing
The Government of São Paulo sent a team from the Maritime Fire Brigade (GBMar) this Saturday (14) to provide specialized technical support in underwater searches for victims of the sinking of the vessel Lima de Abreu, which was carrying 80 passengers. The accident occurred in the region where the waters of the Negro and Solimões rivers meet, in the municipality of Manaus (AM), on Friday afternoon (13), in the region of Meeting of the Waters on the route between Manaus and Nova Olinda do Norte, in Amazonas.
According to the Amazonas Military Fire Department, 71 people were rescued alive. Of the other 9 people, according to the report from the Legal Medical Institute (IML), at least two died – a 3-year-old child and the young Lara Bianca, 22 years old – and 7 are still missing.
Underwater equipment such as ROV (remotely operated vehicle), Sonar Side Scan and the Proton 5 Metal Detector, which performs a precise technical scan, must be used in searches. The objective is to identify the precise location of the vessel before diving begins. According to firefighters, diving without a confirmed location is not recommended, for reasons of efficiency and safety.
As soon as they arrived, the six soldiers from São Paulo were received at the River Platoon of the Amazonas Fire Department, where all the necessary instructions on local water conditions and the strategies used since the beginning of the operation were given. The searches will continue with the joint work of the two states to expand the search area.
