The rain will continue in mainland Portugal until Thursday, mainly in the north and central regions. Next weekend will finally bring the sun.
“We will continue with precipitation in the northern and central regions. It is not a very serious situation, however always with some precipitation“, the meteorologist told Lusa Cristina Simões.
“Some frontal surfaces are passing, mainly affecting the north and center. The southern region is most protected by the anticyclone, which is already closer to the continent,” he added.
According to the specialist from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), periods of rain are expected for this Monday, especially in the northern and central regions, and wind from the western quadrant is weak to moderate and sometimes strong in the highlands.
“Wednesday, the frontal surface passes from north to south, it should reach Alentejo with periods of light rain, but always in the Minho and Douro most intense coastline. As you go south, you lose activity, with light rain”, he said.
According to Cristina Simões, this situation with the occurrence of rain and showers will continue until Thursday, which could be snow in Serra da Estrela.
As regards temperatures, a descent on Thursdayespecially the minimum, which can reach 3 degrees Celsius in Guarda.

“It seems to us that from the 20th [sexta-feira] Precipitation should no longer occur. We will have a longer period with no precipitation. O next weekend with sunny days and no rain”, he added.
Civil Protection recorded this Monday, at 4am, 95 occurrencesmany of which related to the adverse weather situation which is affecting the territory of mainland Portugal, 50 fewer than on Saturday.
According to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) website, the most affected regions were the Center (38) and Lisbon and Tagus Valley (37).
As for sub-regions, the areas with the most occurrences were Médio-Tejo (21), Leiria (19), Lezíria do Tejo (ten) and Coimbra (nine).
In a situation report released by ANEPC on Sunday, since 4pm on February 1st, a total of 19,066 incidents have been recorded.
Falling trees was the most recorded type of occurrence, 5,649, followed by floods (5,252), falling structures (3,084), mass movements (2,933), road cleaning (1,901), water rescues (161) and land rescues (84).
According to Civil Protection, in total 64,636 operators were involved, supported by 26,476 resources, in responding to those incidents.
16 dead in two weeks
16 people died in Portugal following the passage of depressions Kristin, Leonardo and Martawhich also caused many hundreds of injuries and displacement.
The 16th victim is a 72-year-old man who fell on January 28th while repairing the roof of a relative’s house, in the municipality of Pombal, and who died on February 10th, at the Hospitals da Universidade de Coimbra (HUC).
