Croatia offers help to Slovakia and Hungary with oil, insists on compliance with sanctions

Economy Minister Ante Šušnjar confirmed that the Adriatic Pipeline can immediately receive Russian oil for Hungary and Slovakia. Shipping is subject to compliance with EU law and OFAC sanctions.

Croatia is ready to help Hungary and Slovakia with the provision of oil supplies after the transit through Ukraine is stopped. However, compliance with EU law and US OFAC sanctions regulations is a condition. According to the infostart.hu server, Croatian Minister of Economy Ante Šušnjar said this on Monday on the X platform, the TASR correspondent in Budapest reports.

The minister emphasized that Croatia approaches regional energy security responsibly and transparently and will not allow fuel supplies in Central Europe to be jeopardized. According to him, the capacity of the Adriatic Pipeline (Adria) is fully available, while there are currently no technical obstacles for the transportation of raw materials.

They asked for help

Ukraine has still not resumed the transportation of oil through the Druzhba pipeline, so Hungary and Slovakia turned to Croatia to allow the transportation of Russian oil through the Adriatic pipeline. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó wrote it on Facebook on Sunday.

In his post, the head of diplomacy first recalled that Hungary and Slovakia had previously pushed for the continuation of the purchase of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline, and the sanctions exception also includes the fact that if this transit becomes impossible, both countries can import Russian oil by sea.
