One person died and three were injured after a shooting attack this Monday (16) at a hockey arena in the state of Rhode Island, in the United States.
The victim was a girl, the WJAR, a CNN affiliate.
The police informed the CNN that the case may have been motivated by a family dispute. The shooter’s targets were from the same family, they told the CNN two police officers.
After firing the shots, the attacker died after shooting himself.
Two teams made up of students from different schools were playing hockey in the arena, according to WJAR. North Providence, one of the schools involved with the support team, told CNN that “preliminary information indicates that the case may have involved parents of students”.
Meanwhile, Coventry, the other school, said all its students had been located.
Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were sent to assist law enforcement, an agency spokesperson told CNN.
The Rhode Island State Police also works with regional agencies, according to Gov. Dan McKee. Providence Police also sent officers to provide assistance, as posted on their Facebook account.
Gun violence in the United States
The latest outbreak of gun violence comes just two months after one , just a few miles to the south, that shook Rhode Island and highlighted the vulnerability of trusted community spaces.
The arena is about five miles north of the one at Brown University in Providence, where someone opened fire in December, killing two students and injuring nine other people.
