Have vertically filmed series with one-minute episodes already appeared on your social media feed? “I think it has already appeared for everyone. This is a new trend that is certainly here to stay”, guarantees Pedro Lopes, author of soap operas and series such as “Lua Vermelha” and “Coração d’Ouro”, and general director of SP Televisão, one of the largest Portuguese fiction producers.
“This phenomenon started in Asia, in China, but quickly reached Europe, South America, the United States and, in Portugal, very soon, also with original content”, guarantees this person, who is working with RTP on five series of this format, which will premiere during 2026 on RTP Play and on the public channel’s social networks.
Our country, having a well-oiled machine in the production of fiction, could not be left behind in a new trend, believes Lopes. “We made this proposal to RTP. I started studying the phenomenon and thought it made perfect sense for us to create [na SP] a laboratory for this content”, he develops. The production that will be launched in our country is focused on “social themes of the Brazilian reality” and does not intend to “mimic what is done in China”, he guarantees.
Pedro Lopes also reports that filming is currently underway for these first five series, with 20 episodes of one and a half minutes each, and “they have been going very well”. “We believe it will have a positive impact on the Portuguese audience”, he argues.
