On Tuesday, the District Court in Warsaw issued a European arrest warrant for Law and Justice (PiS) MP Marcin Romanowski. The deputy is staying in Hungary, where he received political asylum, the Warsaw correspondent TASR reports, according to Wednesday’s court announcement.
By decision, the court granted the prosecutor’s request. The European arrest warrant enables the arrest and surrender of a wanted person in the member states of the European Union. Details of the rationale behind the issuance of the arrest warrant have not yet been released.
PiS MP and former Deputy Minister of Justice Marcin Romanowski is accused in the case of alleged misuse of funds from the Justice Fund. The prosecutor’s office accuses him of 19 crimes, including participation in an organized criminal group and manipulation of public subsidies. Romanowski has been in Hungary since December 2024, where he received political asylum. Former Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro also received political asylum in Hungary, for whom an arrest warrant is also issued.
