Donald Trump’s government is closer to a full-scale war against Iran, and military action could begin soon, according to a report published by Axios this Wednesday (28).
According to the website, a possible US operation would last “weeks” and be significantly larger than the specific action carried out in Venezuela last month, with the appearance of “total war”.
Sources interviewed by Axios claim that the campaign could occur in conjunction with Israel and would be broader in scope than the 12-day conflict led by Israel last June, when the US reportedly participated in attacks on Iranian underground nuclear facilities.

The website informs that the Israeli government is preparing for a “war scenario in the coming days”according to two Israeli officials interviewed by the publication. American sources told Axios that the timeline could be longer. Senator Lindsey Graham stated that possible attacks could still occur within “weeks”.
A Trump adviser told Axios, on condition of anonymity, that the president was “getting impatient” and that, despite internal warnings against war, there was a “90% chance” of military action in the coming weeks.
Deadlocked negotiations
The escalation comes as nuclear negotiations face difficulties. On Tuesday, Trump advisers Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff met for three hours in Geneva with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Both sides said progress had been made, but U.S. officials said differences remained significant.

Vice President JD Vance told Fox News that the conversations “went well” on some points, but highlighted that the president established “red lines” that . Vance added that Trump wants a deal but may conclude that diplomacy has “reached its natural end.”
In reaction, oil rose steadily. At 12:38 p.m., WTI rose 3.11%, to US$64.27 a barrel and Brent rose 2.92%, to US$69.39.
At the same time, the US expanded its military presence in the Middle East. The country has mobilized two aircraft carriers, around a dozen warships, hundreds of fighters and air defense systems. (models F-35, F-22 and F-16) were moved in the last 24 hours, reports the international press.
After the meetings in Geneva, US officials indicated that Iran must present a detailed proposal within two weeks. Axios recalls that, in June last year, the White House set a similar deadline before deciding on a military operation.
