The administration of United States President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday (18) that it is repealing a rule that encouraged automakers to produce electric vehicles to meet federal fuel economy requirements.
Environmentalists criticize Energy Department rules for assigning high fuel economy values to electric vehicles, which are then included in fleetwide averages under federal Corporate Average Fuel Economy rules.
The Energy Department said that following an appeals court ruling in September, it will remove the provision known as the “fuel content factor” from calculations and plans to propose additional revisions.
