“Life is made of choices”: father denies that 14-year-old boy killed in mega operation is a victim

Communicator and former sound engineer Aroldo Barros paid an emotional tribute on Instagram: “TODAY THE RADIO IS IN MOURNING. Early in the morning, I learned that one of the greatest geniuses (if not the greatest) of Brazilian sound design left us and went to live with God. I hope that God can shed a lot of light on this new journey of yours. Rest in peace dear José Claudio Barbedo, “Formiga”.

José Cláudio worked at Rádio Globo for 30 years and consolidated his reputation as a sound effects specialist. Perfectionist and creative, the audio operator left lasting marks on Brazilian radio and television.

He left the group in 2011 and took the company to court. Ten years later, the Superior Court of Justice ruled in favor of the sound designer, guaranteeing him compensation related to the right to use and broadcast the “Brasil-sil-sil” vignette. The decision reaffirmed the recognition of the importance of the professional’s artistic work in the Brazilian media scenario.

The vignette appeared in 1969, designed to cheer up the crowd during the 1970 World Cup qualifiers. Formiga created an echo effect that highlighted the voice of announcer Edmo Zarife (1940-1999), transforming the vignette into a symbol of the Brazilian public’s enthusiasm for football.

Over the years, the sound of “Brasil-sil-sil” has become a cultural reference, remembered by generations of fans and radio and television professionals.
