The president of the USA, Donald Trump, stated this Thursday, 19th, at the first meeting of the Peace Council, that he believes that Hamas will hand over its weapons, but warned: “if they do not return the weapons, they will be treated harshly”.
The meeting brought together representatives from more than 40 countries, including Argentina, Hungary, Paraguay, Japan, Qatar and Egypt, focusing on the reconstruction of Gaza and the formation of an international stabilization force. Despite the formal agenda, the meeting had a self-promoting tone, with Trump highlighting war resolutions that he says he promoted and defending the Council as a more effective alternative to “old multilateral methods”.
‘You can’t play with me’
In direct messages to foreign leaders, he stated: “you can’t play with me”. He praised Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, saying he “has my full support” and that although “not everyone in Europe likes my endorsement, he is doing a good job.” He also mentioned Argentine president, Javier Milei, who “was doing poorly in the polls, but did well in the elections after my support”.

Trump also said he maintains a good relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping and confirmed plans to visit China in April. Commenting on Paraguayan President Santiago Peña, Trump said: “He’s a handsome young man. That’s always a good thing, being young and handsome. That doesn’t mean we have to like you. Young, pretty women, on the other hand? I like them. Young men, not so much.”
Iran
The US president also stated that “good talks are happening with Iran”, but raised the tone by warning that “a meaningful agreement is needed, or else bad things will happen”. According to him, the US could “go one step further” if there is no progress. During the speech, Trump reiterated that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and added that “peace in the Middle East will not be maintained” if the Persian country has this type of weapon in its possession.
