The decision was made to maintain this Thursday (19) deputy Guilherme Derrite (PP-SP) as rapporteur of the “Antifaction” project. The government bench defended the choice of another name to analyze the changes made by the Senate.
Derrite reported the proposal in the first phase in which the matter was processed in the Chamber of Deputies. The choice of name, however, displeased the president’s allies (PT) as he was linked to the government of Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos-SP).
The handling of the proposal displeased the government, which considered that Derrite had disfigured the original text. The Antifiction PL was prepared by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security and forwarded by the Executive to the National Congress at the beginning of November last year.
The text returned to the Chamber of Deputies after being amended by the Senate. The text failed to create a new specific law to punish members of criminal organizations and, instead, proposed updating the current Criminal Organizations Law.
The proposal establishes the Legal Framework for Combating Organized Crime, toughens punishments — which can reach 60 years in prison for leaders, with the possibility of worsening — and restricts regime progression for members of these organizations.
