JPMorgan Chase responded this Thursday (19) to the lawsuit filed by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, against the company and CEO Jamie Dimon, requesting the transfer of the case from Florida state court to federal court.
The request points out that the president’s initial process improperly included Dimon.
Lawyers for JPMorgan Chase wrote in a statement, first reported by Bloomberg, that Trump’s lawsuit is based on a law that explicitly exempts executives at federally regulated banks acting in their official capacities.
Trump’s lawsuit was filed under Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, loosely translated, which does not apply to executives at federally regulated banks, the lawyers argued.
JPMorgan lawyers also disputed Trump’s claims of political motivation.
“Finally, the authors’ weak allegations do not present sufficient facts to support a legal action,” highlighted the lawyers.
A CNN has reached out to JPMorgan Chase and the White House for comment.
Last month, , claiming that the bank wrongly excluded him as a customer in 2021 for political reasons. The lawsuit, initially filed in Florida state court, seeks compensation of US$5 billion.
