Communication associations defend dialogue with AI companies

Entities highlight the importance of prior authorization of journalistic content used by AI

Brazilian entities from the television, music and entertainment industry in general signed a joint note defending open and fruitful dialogue with artificial intelligence (AI) institutions.

According to the entities, “the authorization to use protected content in AI tools is guaranteed by law, and the objective of the initiative is to build a bridge between technology and copyright holders.” The note goes on to say that this is what they intend ensure that the advancement of AI in Brazil happens in affinity with the sustainability of those who produce quality information and culture.

Journalist Marcelo Rech, who is also director-president of the National Newspaper Association (ANJ), emphasizes the importance of “follow minimum rules for recognizing intellectual property, which includes journalistic content.” He also states that approximately a third of the content used by AI comes from journalistic vehicles and it is fair that this outsourced production is remunerated by those who use it.

Therefore, when there is no prior authorization, the journalist highlights that It is legitimate to complain and seek rights in courtas happens not only in Brazil but also in several other countries.

The representatives among those who signed the note, Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters (ABERT), National Association of Magazine Editors (ANER) and ANJ, are available to negotiate authorization modelslicensing and partnerships that guarantee legal security, in addition to mutual benefits.

The proposal also extends to every company related to the use of AI who use or are interested in using protected content produced by their members.
