Recently, at the Vienna Festival Weeks. At the finale of Wagner’s opera “Parzifal” a huge dove of peace flutters across the screen. The Volkstheater has just released a pigeon keychain as merch. A giant pigeon statue in New York has become a photo hotspot. And in the church, pigeons are not only omnipresent as the Holy Spirit. Pigeons have been symbolically exaggerated for centuries – and at the same time hated in everyday life. Hardly any other animal polarizes so much.
