Heavy snowfall on Friday morning brought operations to a complete halt at Vienna’s Schwechat Airport. Departures could resume at approximately 09:00, arrivals about an hour later. TASR informs about it based on the reports of the APA agency and the Devdiscourse portal.
The airport warned passengers to expect further delays even after operations resume. Of the 117 departures scheduled until 09:00 a.m. 19 were canceled and the arrivals were redirected to other airports. Airport spokesman Peter Kleemann urged passengers to check with their airlines for current flight information.
The snow also paralyzed road traffic in Vienna and its surroundings. The emergency services have been in the field since Thursday evening and by Friday morning they intervened in about 30 traffic accidents. Meteorologists predict that the snow should stop during the morninghowever, traffic restrictions and service delays are still expected.
