Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed by telephone with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi the situation surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and reaffirmed Moscow’s support for a political-diplomatic solution to the impasse, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.
According to the statement, released after the conversation held this Friday (20) on an Iranian initiative, the two ministers “exchanged views on the current situation surrounding the Iranian nuclear program”, including in light of indirect contacts between the United States and Iran recently held in Geneva.
According to the note, “the Russian side confirmed its willingness to support the negotiation process, aimed at finding fair political-diplomatic solutions, with respect for Iran’s legitimate rights, in accordance with the principles of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons”. The emphasis on the negotiated path comes amid the resumption of negotiations between Tehran and Washington over the so-called Iranian nuclear dossier.
