In its last event at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games, Brazil ended the first day of the “4-man” bobsled competition (with four crew members) in 20th place.
The yellow-green quartet led by experienced driver Edson Bindilatti, 46, completed the two laps on the frozen concrete circuit of the Sliding Center, in Cortina d’Ampezzo, with a combined time of 1min50s46. Brazil is tied with the Liechtenstein team.
The Brazilian team is completed by Davidson de Souza, Rafael da Silva and Luis Bacca.
The disputes will resume on Sunday (22), starting at 6 am (Brasília time). The 20 best classified after the third descent return for the fourth and final descent, starting at 8:15 am, which is considered the final.
The three best times this Saturday were recorded by teams from Germany, with the lead at 1min48s61.
In the dispute with two crew members per sled, on the 16th, Brazil finished in 24th place in Milan-Cortina, with Edson Bindilatti and Luis Bacca. The duo surpassed the country’s best record so far in the competition, which was 27th place, with Bindilatti and Edson Martins, in PyeongChang-2018.
The biggest power in the sport today, Germany won gold, silver and bronze in the two-man competitions.
Brazilian participation in bobsled began at the Salt Lake City Winter Games, in the United States, in 2002. At the Beijing Games, in 2022, the country achieved its best Olympic result, advancing to the finals in the “4-man”, when it finished in 20th place.
