Israel hits Hezbollah command centers in eastern Lebanon

Israeli airstrikes in eastern Lebanon killed eight members of the Hezbollah group, including local authorities, two officials from the organization said on Saturday (21). The Lebanese Ministry of Health counted 10 dead, without distinguishing between combatants and civilians, and 24 injured, including three children.

Hezbollah officials said the attacks took place near the village of Rayak in the northeast of the country on Friday night.

The Israeli army reported that members of Hezbollah’s missile unit, located in three command centers in the Baalbek area, had been “eliminated”.

Among the dead identified by Hezbollah are local commanders Ali al-Moussawi, Mohammed al-Moussawi and Hussein Yaghi, the latter son of one of the group’s founders and an ally of Hassan Nasrallah.

The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah intensified in September 2024, after months of exchanges of fire that began in support of Hamas. Although a US-brokered ceasefire was established two months later, Israel accuses Hezbollah of trying to rebuild itself and carries out frequent attacks on the group’s facilities.
