Brazil is left without awards at BAFTA, the British Oscar

Brazil ended up with no awards at the BAFTA Awards, considered the British Oscar, this Sunday. The film “The Secret Agent” competed in two categories, as well as Brazilian director of photography Adolpho Veloso and documentary filmmaker Petra Costa. Wagner Moura, who is on the list of nominees for Best Actor at the Oscars, was not nominated for a BAFTA. Last year, Brazil was also left without a prize, when it competed with “I’m Still Here”.

The Best Film of the year at the British Oscars was “One Battle After Another”, which beat strong competitors such as “Hamnet”, “Sinners”, “Marty Supreme” and “Sentimental Valor”.

The award for Best Non-English Language Film went to “Valor Sentimental”, from Norway. In addition to the Brazilian film, “Just An Accident” (France), “Sirât” (Spain) and “The Voice of Hind Rajab” (Tunisia) competed in this category.

“The Secret Agent” also lost in the Best Original Screenplay category, with the award going to “Sinners.” Also competing were the films “Eu Juro”, “Marty Supreme” and “Valor Sentimental”.

The Best Cinematography (Cinematography) that won the BAFTA was that of “One Battle After Another”, which competed with “Sonhos de Trem”, by Veloso, “Frankenstein”, “Marty Supreme” and “Pecadores”.

The Best Documentary of the year was “Mr. Nobody Against Putin”, beating Petra’s “Apocalypse in the Tropics”, as well as “2000 Meters to Andriivka”, “Cover-Up” and “The Perfect Nighbor”.
