Slovak actress, singer and politician Dorota Nvotová (43) surprised fans and the public when she announced on Instagram at the beginning of January that she was diagnosed with breast cancer and subsequently underwent a mastectomy – a surgical procedure in which doctors removed her entire mammary gland. For now, she revealed how she figured it out, though she showed no symptoms.
“I knew I had cancer. I felt it, viscerally. And that was the only reason I went for the mammogram. I didn’t receive a text message telling me to go, because I’m not that old yet, unfortunately. So I just felt that: ‘Jesus, Dorota, you have breast cancer. Go to the doctor immediately.’ I didn’t feel anything. This sounds terribly simple and I would really hate for it to go in this direction, but the intuition somehow works in my case. It just overwhelmed me,” she explained.
She immediately made an appointment for a gynecological examination and asked about a mammogram. After that, she was told that it was 50/50 and further tests were needed, but in her own words she underwent everything already knowing that she had cancer.
“Nevertheless, I still had that glimmer of hope that it might not all be intuition and it might just be paranoia. So it could be just plain fear and paranoia and you think you’re disguising it as intuition. I still had this hope that it was working for me, but it was not confirmed. I don’t like it. They announced it to me saying: ‘Well, Dorotka, it’s positive.’ But they told me a month before that get ready for it, everything is turning out to be positive. They dosed me gradually,” said Nvotová, who immediately asked about her chances.
The doctor told her that has a 98 percent chance of survival. Despite that number still shining in front of her eyes, she too had dark thoughts. “I have diagnoses that are much worse and where the number is lower, but they don’t scare me. I live with them well, because thrombosis and embolism are also not a big deal, but this is exactly the scarecrow,” the daughter of actress Annka Šišková concluded and added that three days before the operation, she decided that she was going to photograph nudes.
