The Mexican Army announced this Sunday the Death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, leader of the Jalisco New Generation cartelas part of a military operation.
In a statement, the Army stated that Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as ‘El Mencho’, was injured during an operation carried out in the town of Tapalpa, in the state of Jalisco (west), and that died “during his air transport to Mexico City”.
Oseguera He was one of the most wanted cartel leaders in Mexico and the United Stateswho offered up to 15 million dollars (around 12.7 million euros at current exchange rates) for his capture.
His death is one of harder blows given to the drug trafficking since the arrest of the founders of the Sinaloa cartel, Joaquín Guzmán ‘El Chapo’ and Ismael ‘Mayo’ Zambada, detained in the United States.
Oseguera’s death was announced by the newspapers “El Universal” and “Reforma”, as well as by the broadcaster Televisa.
Armed men blocked several roads in the state of Jalisco with burning cars and trucksin reaction to an operation by federal forces in the region.
The blockades also extended to the neighboring state of Michoacán, where Oseguera’s group is present.
The Oseguera cartel was formed in 2009 and has become one of the most violent drug trafficking groups in Mexico, according to the United States Department of Justice.

But in the meantime, the Security Office assured that airports were operate normally.
In a statement, Guadalajara International Airport clarified that there were no incidents in the terminals – it was a joint psychosis – and that there was no risk to passengers, employees and visitors.
More violence
