11.1% fewer unemployed people compared to the previous year in January, but an increase of almost 4% compared to the previous month.
The number of unemployed people registered in job centers fell 11.1% in Januaryin homologous terms, having up 3.8% face a December, according to data published today by the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP).
According to the IEFP, at the end of January they were registered with the employment services of the continent and autonomous regions 310,708 people unemployeda number that represents 69.1% of a total of 449,423 job applications.
The number is 38,360 people lower than that recorded in the same month of 2025 and the variation is explained by changes in those registered less than 12 months ago (-29,381), those looking for a new job (-31,449) and those over 25 years old (-28,922).
In the chain comparison, that is, Compared to December, there were 11,285 more people registered in January in employment centers.
Looking at the professional groups of the registered unemployed on the continent, the more representative were “unskilled workers” (30.1%), “personal services, security protection and sales workers” (20.2%), “specialists in intellectual and scientific activities” (10.5%) and “administrative staff” (10.2%).
In December, unemployment fell in all regions in annual terms, and it was in Madeira that recorded the biggest drop – 13.9%.
The IEFP also informs that the job offers received throughout this month totaled 11,753 across the country, 0.9% less in the annual comparison, but more than double (104.6%) compared to December.
At the end of the month, there were 11,451 unfulfilled job offers, a growth of 3.5% year on year.
Placements carried out during the first month of the year reached 6,883 across the country, 11.4% less than in the same period last year, but 48.7% more than in December.
Couples
The number of couples with both elements unemployment fell 12.5% in January, in year-on-year terms, despite increase 1.9% face a December, refer to data released today by the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP).

The IEFP also announced that the number of unemployed people registered with the continent’s employment services fell 11.0% compared to the same period last year and rose 3.8% compared to the previous month.
Of these, 138,916 were single (-13.1% year on year), 93,343 married (-10.6%), 35,447 divorced (-7.6%), 26,310 in a stable union (-5.7%) and 4,815 widowed (-5.7%).
